Research and Collections

The Auburn Historical Society and Museum has a wide-ranging collection of artifacts and resources that tell the story of Auburn’s past.

Our most important collection is the Holstrom Photographic Archives, which showcases the people and buildings of Auburn’s past. We hope to have online access to it soon, but you are welcome to visit us and let us show you our digitized collection.

If you’re new to the area, or just want to find out more information on your house and neighborhood, stop in and we can show you our maps that show the evolution of Auburn from the small “South Parish” of Worcester to the small Town of Ward, through the Auburn of today.

The Museum has many “theme books” on historic topics relating to Auburn history. Some of our popular titles are:

  • Boston Post Cane
  • Women of Auburn
  • Auburn Churches
  • Auburn Mills
  • Auburn Fire Department
  • Cemeteries of Auburn
  • Auburn’s Civil War
  • Pakachoag Indians of Auburn
  • and many more!
